Once again Frigiliana is preparing itself to celebrate the 3 Cultures Festival, declared of provincial tourist interest. This will be the seventh edition, and it will take place from 23rd to 26th August.
The festival includes a series of cultural events organized by the Town Council of this village located between Nerja and Torrox. It is a festival which pays a special tribute to the three cultures that left their imprint in medieval Spain: Islamic, Hebrew and Christian, through gastronomy, music, culture and also exhibitions, lectures, concerts, and leisure activities.
Any person visiting the area during the celebration of the Festival should not miss the opportunity of knowing this beautiful village in the Axarquía – Costa del Sol in the time of the year when it draws more life and revelry.
Cultures living together
On the last weekend in August Frigiliana is decked out to hold a ludic cultural activity turning itself into a forum for the different cultures to meet and live together, and where all the visitors participate.
For that purpose, special attention is paid to embrace various activities that offer a full range of options for all regardless of age or origin.
Activities for all tastes
The festival includes high artistic level musical performances in a relaxed and familiar environment, lectures on subjects related to the three cultures, exhibitions, gastronomy events and an exhibition of the local meals in the successful Tapa Route in different bars from the village.
Outdoor activities include musical parades, juggling, fakirs, belly dancing, as well as children activities through traditional games, storytelling, children’s theatre, puppet show… All of this is shown in the market of the three cultures where local and original products are offered to the visitors filling the streets with a cosmopolitan and festive atmosphere.
Increased success in each edition
The 2006 first edition impressive success of visitors and critics encouraged the town council to prepare a second edition with more space, more activities and a wider offer, hitting again the target on what visitors required, so that now the Festival is broadly successful and consolidated and it is now considered as a tourist unique attraction in the province. The next editions kept on having a great success in terms of visitors, reaching over 20.000 visits during the four days that the festival lasts.
Fuerte Hoteles chain has in the nearby town of Torrox some magnificent apartments where tourists wanting to go and joy the Festival with the “aguanosos”, as the villagers are known can stay.
