The emblematic establishment, which will reopen its doors on Friday to kick off the 2019 season, was the first hotel in Spain to obtain the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications
12 February 2019. 20 years ago, on a day just like today, a spectacular Andalusian style hotel complex located right on the beautiful Playa de la Fontanilla beachfront in Conil de la Frontera (Cadiz) opened its doors. The opening of Hotel Fuerte Conil, which at the time had 250 rooms (469 today, following its expansion in 2004), revived the then struggling economy of the little village and helped to create one of the most well-established and well-known tourist destinations, both in Spain and internationally, on the coast of Cadiz.
Next Friday, the 15th of February it will reopen its doors in order to tackle the new 2019 season, marked by various events to celebrate this milestone with guests, representatives of the sector and, especially, the neighbours in the area, many of whom have been directly or indirectly linked to the hotel since its very beginning. According to some of the employees that joined the hotel’s staff at the time, the arrival of the Fuerte Group Hotels in town was seen as a real revolution of prosperity and modernity, and as a challenge, given that the selection process was incredibly demanding and thorough for the time. Nevertheless, the professionalism of all of its staff, and the kindness typical of southerners, has succeeded in earning Fuerte Conil a reputation as one of the best hotels in Cadiz.
Antonio Basallote, Director of Fuerte Conil, says: “Fuerte Group Hotels is a family company with over 60 years of experience. One that has always shown commitment to the well-being of its employees and to helping the areas where our hotels are located to prosper. In the case of Fuerte Conil, we have given priority to hiring local people. 95% of our 126 employees, which in August go up to 227, are from the area. What’s more, the businesses of local suppliers have benefitted both directly and indirectly from the 1.2 million+ guests that have visited us over the last 6 months, as have all the other complementary businesses that have been created around the hotel over the years. We trust that we will continue to meet expectations this 2019 and achieve hotel occupancy figures similar to those obtained in the last few years, particularly those of 2018, when we reached a record 81.68% occupancy”.
Another important aspect is the environment, given that Fuerte Conil – Costa was the first hotel in Spain to be accredited with the ISO 9001 and the ISO 14001 certifications, the latter recognising the environmental management policies implemented by the establishment. Over the last 20 years, numerous awards have attested to this excellent work, such as the Tui Holly and the TUI Umwelt awards, both of which it has won season after season, almost uninterruptedly, as well as the Re Think Award, which in 2017 chose the hotel as one of the 10 Best Hotel Sustainability and Rehabilitation Projects carried out this year.
